Keeping quality in check: How Powertex and Ropetex safeguard product compliance and performance

For industrial professionals, product quality is about more than performance. It’s about safety, compliance, and peace of mind. At Powertex and Ropetex, we make sure every lifting product, wire rope, and accessory lives up to those expectations, batch after batch, item by item.

Tim Tang, Supplier Quality Manager at Axel Johnson International, shares how we ensure quality at every step of the chain, from CE marking to on-site checks.

Quality built in from the start
Before any product arrives at our customers’ sites, it undergoes a strict quality assurance process. That starts with clear, detailed specifications based on European standards, which are often enhanced with additional requirements from Powertex and Ropetex.

“We don’t rely solely on paperwork or certificates,” says Tim. “We check the product, the label, the packaging; everything must be aligned with the relevant standards and with our own internal expectations.”

Clear criteria, consistent control
Take a PRS round sling, for example. It must comply with EN 1492-2 and meet the required safety factor(7). The product color, label, and QR code must all match, and the batch number and serial number must be clearly displayed. The label is also protected in a sleeve for durability. These details are not optional. They ensure that each item is compliant, traceable, and easy to use, in any environment.

“We also test against performance criteria, and if needed, we return products that do not meet our standards,” explains Tim. “We work directly with our production partners to resolve issues quickly and make improvements where necessary.”

The CE marking: our responsibility, your guarantee
Many Powertex and Ropetex products require CE marking, a visible sign that they meet EU requirements on safety, health, and environmental protection.
Unlike some quality marks, CE marking is not issued by an external body. The company that brings the product to market is responsible for ensuring compliance. That means us.

“For each product and each variant, such as different lifting capacities, we maintain a full technical file,” says Tim. “We document everything: specifications, test results, user manuals, and declarations of conformity. We don’t just say a product is compliant. We prove it.”

Traceable, testable, trustworthy
Each batch that is produced is subject to sample inspection and/or testing. If the sample passes, every item in the batch is labelled accordingly. If it doesn’t, we take immediate action.

“We recently had feedback about packaging that might affect product protection during shipping,” Tim shares. “We resolved it quickly with the manufacturer, adjusted the packaging, and followed up to confirm the changes were implemented.”

This kind of continuous improvement is part of the Powertex and Ropetex quality model. “We don’t just react. We monitor, test, and improve, so customers always get reliable, ready-to-use equipment.”

What this means for you

By putting quality and compliance at the heart of everything we do, we help our customers:

  • Stay compliant with EU standards and local regulations
  • Reduce risk in the field or on the jobsite
  • Track and trace every product they use
  • Receive consistent, clearly documented equipment

“We believe quality is not something you check at the end,” Tim concludes. “It’s something you build into every part of the process.”
